Writing can be a task often too intimidating for most. When people think about writers and their trade, similar things come to one’s mind, such as grammar and sentencing. Although the knowledge of said skills is important, they are completely overshadowed by qualities of greater importance. Such qualities are empathy, imagination and story building. My humble beginnings as a writer started after I graduated from the Faculty of Economics and working as a Project Manager in a Belgrade based design studio.
That is puzzling, right? How can an economist become a writer? The truth lies inside my deep fondness for modern written material, such as movies, novels, comic-books, video games and audio books. I wanted to turn myself into a modern writer. It started with analyzing written material, figuring out forms and structures used by my peers. I was amazed by the depth of thought and research one has to put in to create a written piece. Soon after, I got my first writing job at Eipix Entertainment (eipix.com) as a Narrative Designer for video games. I was writing story lines, dialogues and other supportive narrative for many video games produced by said company.
The pace was challenging, increasing by each passing day. I am extremely grateful to Eipix for giving me such an opportunity, for I have truly developed myself as a writer by working on their projects. I have written narrative for 5 published games, all of them available on Big Fish Games. Writing requires a small amount of finesse in terms of program knowledge. We will be using the MS Office Suite along with Grammarly and other supportive tools that allow us to mold our material into the desired form. I will teach you the following skills necessary to operate as a creative writer:
Developing ideas and formulating story lines
Writing for various kinds of narrative formats (novels, comic-books, video games, etc.)
Fine tuning your grammar and sentencing
Creating interesting characters and situations
Writing promotional and marketing material for products
Editing text and creating logical structures
Out of my students I expect an open mind, a strong willingness to learn and improve, and a positive approach towards criticism and story development. Your personal preferences and interests will dictate the direction in which our projects will go. I am basically a catalyst for your creative thought! With passion and success on one’s mind, barriers shatter and triumph ensues. A writer’s road is bumpy and has many sharp curves, consider me your co-driver. If writing is your passion, it would be my joy and privilege to introduce you to creative writing.
P.S. All of the writing done during this course will be in English. I can teach you in both English and Serbian.
